VISTO um PENA – Afro Brasil Carnival Music

VISTO um PENA (Wear a Feather) Plays exciting, Brazilian Carnival street rhythms, Samba music, Afro-Brazilian beats and club grooves on authentic samba instruments. With 18-20 members this group makes a sonic and visual impact playing Blistering Afro-Brasilian Carnival, street music

Formed in September 2004 in the medieval city of Kilkenny in Ireland’s ‘Sunny’ South East the group operates on a workshop format and plays in Festivals and parades countrywide.

Samba drumming (& all Brazilian percussion) is social, educational and exhilarating. We cater for players at all levels, and place a strong emphasis on the culture, music and songs with a fun hands-on approach where everyone gets to give it a go!

This strong sense of community is important to us as it encourages a sense of shared ownership, responsibility and common goals in the quest for excellence. To the that end the group has an active education policy for it’s members beyond normal rehearsals, running seminars on instrument technique and playing styles as well as a growing lending library of educational materials. we have also developed an instrument library for players who wish to develop playing skills and stamina for particular pieces.

The group has won some major awards both in 2005 & 2006 coming away with best group in the Kilkenny St. Patricks Day (05) and Thurles St. Patricks’s Parade (06) and has been seen the length and breadth of the country in festivals and parades

The festival is always looking for new members, so check out any of the open rehearsals
