So, 2011 sees the wheels back on the wagon for a few projects.
Maracatu Ilha Brilho Raises it's head again following some of it's member's taking time to play in Brazil's Recife Carnival and West Africa. With confirmed gigs at the Drogheda Samba Fest and The Big Bang Festival the only national percussion group of it's kind gets a chance to 'shine' again. Oh and the group celebrated a year in existence last April.....It has felt like a lot lot longer!
This year also includes a second visit by the International Maracatu Project 'Masters Nation' being hosted by Belfast Beat who are bringing over three masters (2 percussion & 1 dance) this June for a series of masterclasses and hosting a mini-encontro (meeting of European players)
Meanwhile Bloco de Sud Este (Wexford) are clocking up numerous gigs, parades and festivals, hopefully they will also be seen at the Samba Fest and throughout the South East bringing their energy and sound to the dancing throngs! T
